Malmö’s Big Treasure Hunt: 80 Players, One Synchronized Adventure

August 24, 2026

Last Saturday, we hosted Malmö’s Big Treasure Hunt, and for us it became an important real-world test of the TreasureQuesting platform. Around 80 people took part, divided into approximately 20 active teams, making their way through Malmö while solving clues and challenges along the route.

What made the event especially exciting for us was that everyone was playing at the same time. On top of the main players, a large number of participants also used our CoPlay feature, allowing several people to follow and take part in the same treasure hunt from their own phones.

Testing the platform at scale

We were naturally a little nervous about how everything would perform with that many people playing simultaneously, so it was great to see the platform work well throughout the entire event. Teams were able to move between locations, solve challenges, and play together without any major issues.

Seeing a synchronized competition run smoothly in a real city, with live leaderboards, shared sessions, and phones in every team’s hands, was exactly the kind of validation we were hoping for.

Meeting the players

The best part was meeting the participants and hearing their reactions afterwards. A lot of people seemed to really enjoy the format, and several told us they would happily play another treasure hunt in the future. That was probably the most rewarding feedback we could have received.

Built with the same tools available to everyone

Another important part of the event was that everything in the treasure hunt was built using features already available to everyone on TreasureQuesting. Nothing was custom-built specifically for the Malmö event. The same tools we used to create the experience are available to anyone who wants to build their own treasure hunt on the platform.

If you want to explore Malmö yourself, you can still play the Malmö treasure hunt. Or open the visual editor and create an adventure for your own city, school, birthday, or team day.

Every great adventure starts with a single clue, and last weekend, Malmö proved that those clues can bring a whole city together at once.
